BALANGA CITY, Bataan, July 4 (PNA) -- The Dept. of Social Welfare and Development continued on the fourth day Thursday its free feeding program for this year in all day care centers in the country.
Maurita Santuyo, day care officer under the City Social Welfare and Development of Balanga, said the nationwide program now in its third year was implemented in 2011.
The free feeding project is for a six-month period from July to December every year.
"The parents could save since there is no need for the children to buy or bring foods and at the same, the children could avoid eating junk foods because we are serving them half meal of nutritious rice and viand," she said.
The city day care officer said food allowance per child is P13 coming from the national fund.
Santuyo said the program is going on for 1,500 children aged three to four years in 28 day care centers in 25 barangays of this city.
At the day care center in barangay San Jose, free food is served to 31 children at 10:00 a.m. and another 36 children at 3:00 p.m. or a total of 67 kids from Mondays to Fridays, teaching aide Beth Mosper said.
Parents are divided into groups charged in marketing, cooking, serving the food and washing of dishes.
Day care teacher Lorna Quintos thanked the parents for their cooperation and expressed the hope that the support will continue until December. (Media ng Bayan)
